About the Bill

The International Violence Against Women Act (IVAWA) calls for a comprehensive U.S. response to end violence against women and girls throughout the world. CGRS is supporting online advocacy campaigns to raise awareness around IVAWA, which funds innovative programs to reduce violence against women globally and makes ending violence against women a diplomatic priority for the U.S. Reintroduced in 2015 with strong bipartisan support in the House of Representatives (H.R.1340) and the Senate (S.713), IVAWA demonstrates that the prevention of global gender-based violence is a universal issue that transcends political beliefs.

Please get involved!

Contact your Senators and House Reps today by using this IVAWA online action page! Tell them you support IVAWA and ask them to stand behind this important legislation. Tell them that we urgently need this comprehensive U.S. response to end violence against women and girls globally. The bill must ultimately pass the Senate and House, so support is needed in both!

Original sponsors of this bill in the Senate include Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Susan Collins (R-ME), Mark Kirk (R-IL), Robert Menendez (D-NJ), and Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH).

There are currently over 60 co-sponsors in the House of Representatives. This is an ideal opportunity to reach out and thank co-sponsors, and especially to urge other House Representatives to join them.

Raise Awareness by posting about IVAWA on your Facebook pages and Twitter feeds.
