The Trump Administration’s decision to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program that protects 800,000 undocumented immigrants is cruel and heartless. The callous decision has placed young people, who have grown up in this country and are an integral part of our communities, at risk of deportation to countries where they face imminent danger. Ending the DACA program – whose beneficiaries are more than 90% from Mexico, Central America, or other Latin American countries – is just the latest example of this Administration’s misguided and hateful policies directed at the Latino community. Contrary to the false narrative purported by Attorney General Sessions in his announcement this morning, the DACA program did not result in the child migrant crisis of 2014; families fled, and continue to flee, rampant gang- and gender-based violence in the region.

CGRS stands with DREAMERs and all members of the immigrant community as we continue to reject this Administration’s repeated scapegoating and racist attacks against immigrant families. We call on Congress to immediately take action and pass legislation to protect our immigrant youth.
