The applicant and her husband were active members of the Christian Democratic Party, an umbrella organization that opposed the government. They threatened to kill her if she reported the rape, and kidnapped her husband; she has not seen him since. On another occasion, the police interrogated the applicant on her husband’s whereabouts and warned her to stop her political activities. Several other times soldiers came to her house and threatened to kill her and her children. One time, they brutally gang-raped her.
