Case Summary

The IJ granted asylum to a Nicaraguan man who was beaten while participating in a mother's day protest in Managua. After the protest, he received threats and felt compelled to move to a different town. A neighbor leader threatened him with a machete for being a protestor. He was told that he needed to stop and join the neighbor leaders' cause of supporting the government or he would be detained. According to the attorney, the IJ granted on the protected ground of political opinion. DHS did not appeal.
