Case Summary

The IJ granted asylum to a Salvadoran woman who fled domestic violence. Before fleeing her country, she was imprisoned in her own home by her intimate partner for over two years, time in which she was unable to communicate with the outside world. The applicant was also subjected to severe physical violence and death threats, and the perpetrator often made misogynistic statements while being abusive.  According to the applicant’s attorney, the IJ considered the high level of past persecution the applicant endured and granted protection recognizing the particular social group of “Salvadoran women.” The applicant’s attorney also reported that the applicant, DHS, and other the Adjudicator cited or referenced Matter of A-B-.
