June 2006—CGRS Director Karen Musalo
gives a presentation about asylum and gender-based persecution
at the Second World Social Forum on Migration in Madrid,
Spain. Over 2,000 participants from 95 countries, representing
870 refugee and immigrant rights organizations took part
in the Forum. Seated next to Karen is Itziar Caballero, who
works with CEAR (Comisión de Ayuda al Refugiado),
Spain’s foremost refugee NGO. CGRS and CEAR have been
collaborating on a gender asylum campaign in Spain.

June 2006—A filmmaker who is producing
a documentary on the Second World Social Forum on Migration
interviews Karen Musalo in Madrid, Spain. Karen was also
interviewed by a reporter from the major Spanish television
network, Televisión Española, for a program
entitled “Con Todos Los Acentos,” which aired
in Spain on July 2, 2006, and included an extensive report
on the Forum.

her integrity, fairness, and professionalism towards all
who appear in her courtroom

August 2006—CGRS Development and
Communications Director Felecia Bartow greets House Democratic
Leader Nancy Pelosi during a Citizenship Workshop organized
by her San Francisco District Office. Congresswoman Pelosi
was instrumental in securing an appropriation to CGRS,
which allowed it to initiate its Refugee Rights Clinic,
at U.C. Hastings College of the Law.

July 2006—CGRS Deputy Director
Stephen Knight leads a lunch-time update and discussion
on gender asylum issues for lawyers and law clerks at the
offices of Morgan Lewis in San Francisco; the event was
organized by the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights.
