CGRS, along with nine other immigrant’s rights organizations, is a signatory to a complaint filed on November 13, 2014 with the Department of Homeland Security, Office of Civil Rights & Civil Liberties on behalf of men and women who were unjustly deported by U.S. Customs and Border Protection(CBP) to countries where they faced persecution. The complaint raises concerns regarding the regular obstruction of the asylum process by CBP officers who frequently flout federal law by failing to ask asylum seekers whether they fear persecution in their home countries, and intimidating and ignoring individuals who do express fear.
